I, Captain Chamila Mendis, presently hold the appointment of Director of the Regional Centre for Maritime Studies at the KDU. I joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an officer cadet of the 16th intake at Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy on 13th November 1998 and completed my basic training both at KDU and NMA. I was commissioned into the Executive Branch of the Regular Naval Force on 13th November 2000 as an Acting Sub Lieutenant. Subsequently, I followed my Sub Lieutenant Technical Course at BNS Issa Khan - Bangladesh Navy (2004 - 2005), Long Navigation Specialization Course at INS Venduruthy - Indian Navy (2009), and Staff Courses at the Defence Services Command and Staff College - Sri Lanka (2014) and the Pakistan Navy War College (2016 - 2017). Also, I earned my bachelor's degree and Master of Science in Defence & Strategic Studies from Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and Master of Science in War Studies (Maritime) from National Defence University - Pakistan. I am an alumnus of the National Defense University, Washington, DC (CISA Class 2022) and a life member of the Alumni Association - KDU.
