I’m Lieutenant Colonel KP Rohan Kumara RWP RSP psc GR is a commissioned officer in the Sri Lanka Army. I have completed my early education at M/Ullala Maha Vidyalaya and enlisted in the Sri Lanka Army on 08th August 1999 as an Officer Cadet of KDA Intake 17. After undergoing basic military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) – Intake 53B, I was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 08th August 2001 and posted to the Gajaba Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army.
Over the span of my distinguished career, I have held a wide array of important command, staff, and instructional appointments that highlight professional excellence and leadership. During my career I have held several staff appointments, such as Staff Officer II at the Officers Career Planning Section of the Regimental Headquarters – Gajaba Regiment, Staff Officer II of the 22 Division, and as the Brigade Major of the 612 Infantry Brigade.
In terms of command appointments, I have held multiple levels of responsibility, beginning as a Platoon Commander in the 3rd Battalion Gajaba Regiment, subsequently serving as Acting Officer Commanding and later Officer Commanding (D Company) of the same battalion. And also held the appointments of Acting Second-in- Command of both the 3rd and 8th Battalions of the Gajaba Regiment, and Commanding Officer (Overlooking) of the 8th Battalion. Furthermore, I have served as Officer Commanding of the 23rd Battalion, Second-in-Command of the 14th Battalion, and Commanding Officer (Officiating) of the 22nd Battalion, later taking over as the full Commanding Officer of the 22nd Battalion Gajaba Regiment.
As an instructor, I have served at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University from 2017 to 2019, imparting my knowledge and experience to the future leaders of the Armed Forces.
I have successfully followed a wide range of professional military training both locally and internationally. As local courses, include the Young Officers’ Course, Advanced Infantry Platoon Trainning Course at Wasavilan, Special Infantry Opertation Course, BFSR Course at Panagoda, Basic Small Arms Weapons Course at Infantry Trainning Centre Minneriya, Missile Course in Minneriya, Defence Services Command and Staff College Course at Batalanda, United Nation Peace Keeping Operations Course at Kukuleganga and French Language Course in 2019.
As the foreign training, includes the Basic Airborne Course (No 180) in Pakistan (2009), the Junior Command Course in India (2019–2020), and participation in Exercise Mitra Shakthi IX in India (2023).
In addition to my professional military education, I also attained significant academic qualifications, holding a Master of Human Rights from the University of Colombo and a Bachelor of Arts in Defence Studies from General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.
I have represented Sri Lanka on the international stage, serving with distinction under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).
